Placement 2004

 IIFT, New Delhi

IIFT Rules the Placement Scenario

Riding on the crest of the "feel good" factor, the placements at IIFT broke all previous records with the entire batch getting placed on the very first day of the placement process.

The placement process started with less than the full strength of the batch participating as based on their summer internship performance, 18% of the batch had already received pre-placement offers (PPOs) well before the placement week started, which is the highest across all the B-schools. Notable among the companies, which offered PPOs, were TAS, HLL and Agrotech.

Infact the candidates were lapped up with such ferocity that as many as 31 companies had to return empty handed. 20% of the batch was placed in trading majors, with 9 international placements in companies like Olam International, Wilson International, Nobel Grains.

Similarly, 20% of the batch was placed in IT majors like Infosys, Wipro and HCL Technologies. It is notable that this year saw the IT majors emerging as one of the bulk recruiters from IIFT with many of them deviating from the norm of selecting just one or two students. Pharma companies like Dr. Reddy's Labs and Dabur Pharma also picked up students in bulk. FMCG majors like HLL, ITC and Godrej participated in the placement process with every company vying with the other for recruiting the crème de la crème first. The jobs offered covered the entire gamut of operations from the domestic scenario to the international arena. Banking institutions like ABN Amro, HDFC bank and Global Trust Bank are other companies that have recruited from IIFT and offered to give more summer and live projects. Energy sector giants like ONGC, BPCL and HPCL have been regular visitors on campus and this year was no different. The exciting part of the placements was the astounding number of spot offers with almost all the companies such as the Aditya Birla Group, MUL and Tata Motors following this trend.

In the whole clutter of B-Schools, what makes IIFT stand out is its focus on international dimensions of all subjects, be it marketing, strategy, finance or IT. Also, the continuous revision of the course with external inputs have helped full reflection of the dynamics of the market and the corporate interactions with the who's who of the corporate world through seminars, guest lectures and optimal utilization of the IIFT alumni network have further enriched the students. It is in this context that, Mr. Prabir Sengupta, IAS, Director, IIFT, Former Secretary, Government of India, put it, "The boundaries between international business and domestic business are fast disappearing and it is in context that IIFTians have an unbeatable edge".
