Placement 2010

 Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Recruiters Welcome Newly Adopted Cohort based Placement Process at IIM, Ahmedabad

The newly adopted cohort-based placement process at the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) kicked off on Saturday with an upbeat mood among students as well as recruiters who have lined up to catch some of the best management talents in the country.

The day was marked by the return of Bank of America-Merrill Lynch to the campus for recruiting final year students of Post Graduate Programme in Management at the IIM-A. Regular recruiters Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Co also gave out 8 offers each, including pre-placement offers. Some of the top international banks are also expected to mark their presence, including regulars like HSBC Global, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and Citibank.

A group of cohorts would make a cluster, which would include companies from different sectors. Students would be able to prioritize the cohort as per their choice and then choose a company. The institute has implemented this system in order to give students more time to know the nature of the job they are being offered.

According to IIM-A placement committee chairperson Saral Mukherjee, "The day-based system left very short time for students to perform in the interviews, thus putting a lot of pressure on them. The new cohort-based system will have breaks in between, giving them time to recover. It would also give time to the recruiters to evaluate the right candidate for their requirement.

Concluded.
