Degree or Diploma: What's your take?
Jun 27,2012
Indias premier Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMs) award diplomas and not degrees to their graduating students. This becomes a limitation for those who wish to pursue doctoral level studies after completing their MBA.
Union minister for human resource development, Kapil Sibal has suggested that students graduating from IIMs should get degrees instead of diplomas.
The issue was discussed as a key concern at a meeting of MHRD on Tuesday at IIM Lucknow, where Sibal and senior officials of MHRD met chairpersons and directors of all IIMs. The minister said that the deemed university status to IIMs would allow these b-schools to award degrees. However, a formal decision in this regard has not been taken.
