Objective:

• Impart knowledge and skills (conceptual as well as technical components) on the cutting edge digital library technologies

• Acquire strategies for the design and maintenance of robust digital systems capable of standing the test of time and technology

• Formulate strategies for information technology leveraging techniques for the information professionals so as to equip them face the challenges as information intermediaries, content buyers, content managers, and content providers

For: The programme would be of interest to information professionals and to those involved in such aspects of digital libraries as infrastructure; information services; metadata; content management; preservation; system design; implementation; interface design; human-computer interaction; collection development; intellectual property; privacy; electronic publishing; document genres; multimedia and associated applications/theoretical topics.

• Digital Libraries & Digital Archives: Design, development, organization, implementation, maintenance and the Digital Nervous System

• Digital Library Technologies: Architectures, Standards, Protocols, Resources & Formats

• Strategies for multi-media Digital Content development and providing intellectual access using COM/DCOM

• Strategies for multi-media Digital Collection building and management

• Internet and Network concepts, Library Networks and Interoperability among digital libraries

• Database Management Systems and Web Publishing; Design of user-friendly interfaces and User issues

• Open Archives Initiative. Open URL Framework and Open Linking Standards

• The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH)

• Open Source Digital Library Software: Greenstone

• Hands on labs will be given at IIMK Computer Centre which has a state of art multimedia lab and a high speed Internet link
