National Conference on Corporate Governance

Scope: The conference will bring experts together for presenting and discussing contemporary issues in corporate governance with particular reference to India. It will particularly focus on implementation issues to support initiatives taken by the government, regulators, professionals and companies in improving corporate governance in India. Papers will be presented by policy makers, academicians and business leaders.

Theme: Corporate governance - The Indian context

  • The nature of the contemporary firm-economist’s perspective

  • The ownership pattern and corporate governance with particular reference to Indian companies

  • Towards transparency in corporate financial reporting

    Session 2 (2:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
    Theme: The Regulatory Framework

  • Director’s Responsibility statement, Clause 49 of the Listing Agreement and Sarbanes Oxley Act - Are they adequate to enforce the accountability of the CEO and the board of directors?

  • In search for a balanced board of directors-the role of independent directors

  • Audit committee - the expectation gap

    Day 2: February 25, 2006

    Session 3 (10:00 am - 1:00 pm)
    Theme: Issues in the implementation of the ‘Corporate Governance Code’

  • Corporate governance in state owned enterprises

  • Corporate governance in family businesses

  • Corporate governance in international joint ventures

    Session 4 (2:00pm-5:00 pm)
    Theme: Corporate social responsibility and ethics in the context of corporate governance - a fad or a core concern of large enterprises?
