Objectives: In a competitive business environment, effective distribution of products from manufacturing locations to market place needs considerable skill and detailed coordination. Appropriate distribution channel design, inventory management policies and practices, despatch decisions, and supportive information systems are essential ingredients of an effective logistics system.
This programme provides a conceptual framework for the logistics function and will share Indian experiences related to managing an effective logistics function.

For: Executives involved in logistics, distribution, purchasing, traffic, and warehousing.

Contents: The programme is designed as an integration of four interdependent modules: -

Module 1: Structural Decisions: Plant location, warehouse location, depot location, channel design, and decision on retailing partners
Module 2: Inventory Flow Management: Supply demand linkages, demand forecasting, inventory allocation, inventory positioning, and inventory flow management (order fill decisions)
Module 3: Logistics Enablers: Mode choice, selection of transport partners, logistics metrics, business processes reengineering, and information flow and management
Module 4: Competitiveness and Logistics Function: Linkages between business strategy and logistics, new ways of competing based on effective logistics
