Introduction: Indian economy was liberalized in early 90’s. From January 2005, new WTO regulations with its associated product patent regime have become operational in India. Life cycles of new technologies and technology application products are diminishing at faster and faster rates. Indian national R & D system and industries are gearing up to face these environmental challenges. Recent trend of increasing investment in R & D and employment of growing number of qualified professionals in R & D activities are some of the indications of this awareness. Under pressure of competition, business management process in general and R & D management system in particular are going through major changes. To facilitate faster innovation and to turn one’s R & D expertise into an engine of organizational growth, one needs new structure, process and policies.

The present course has been designed to discuss some of these R & D process issues that may accelerate innovation in national laboratories and in-house R & D labs of industry.
