Planning & Implementing Information Technology Strategy
Program Director: Prof. Sanjay Verma
November 14-19, 2005
Fees: Rs. 40,000 (US$ 1100 for participants from other countries)

Objectives: The investments in Information and Communication Technologies are increasing even though concerns have been raised by a variety of research studies in industrialised countries that economic returns from investments in IT have been far below expectations. Some of the reasons cited to explain this are as follows: -

  • Managerial attitudes and decision-making processes have not changed sufficiently to exploit the rich data that is available.

  • Lack of careful assessment of the potential benefits and competitive advantages of investments in IT.

  • Lack of close relationship between business managers and IT managers.

  • Improper prioritisation of IT applications in organizations.

  • Lack of support from top management, especially failure to understand strategic use of IT.

IT professionals with adequate understanding of business and an exposure to information systems frameworks can play a significant role in development and implementation of an IT strategy which will produce benefits commensurate with investments. Today many IT initiatives are lead by business managers. In such environment, good understanding of issues in planning and implementing IT strategy will help business managers succeed. The programme will provide the necessary frameworks and exposure to managerial practices that will enable the participants to play a leadership role.

For: The programme is intended for Information Technology (IT) executives with more than five years of experience in developing IT applications for mid and large size companies in various sectors like retail, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals etc. Participants for this programme would be moving from application development to providing IT solutions.
