Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

The Programme
In its quest to promote excellence in management, the Institute launched the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) in 1999. It is an autonomous doctoral level programme with a primary objective to prepare young men and women for challenging opportunities in teaching, research, and consulting. The programme is designed to impart knowledge, develop skills, and create attitudes relevant to teaching, research and consulting. The programme will require coursework in general management as well as in the area of specialization, followed by a doctoral level dissertation. In addition to the Institute faculty, resource persons are also drawn from reputed business schools in India and abroad. The Institute of Management is now a constituent of Nirma University and the participant of the programme will be now awarded Ph.D of Nirma University on completion of the programme.

The progamme will be conducted in the following stages: -

  • Coursework
  • Comprehensive Examination
  • Dissertation
  • Award of the Title

    Eligibility
    A Master's degree or equivalent with a minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA on a certain grading system. Candidates appearing for the final examination of their Master's degree can also apply.

    Financial Assistance
    The doctoral students of the Institute will be provided a fellowship of Rs. 5,000 per month in the first year and Rs. 5,000 from second year onwards. The fellowship will be renewed every year upto a maximum of four years subject to satisfactory performance of the participant. They will not be charged tuition fee but will have to pay for books, course materials, lodging, boarding, and other expenses. As part of their fellowship, the doctoral students of the Institute will be required to work on campus for about 20 hours per week on administrative and research assignments. Such assignments will help them become better teachers and researchers.

    Residential Programme
    It is compulsory for the doctoral students to stay in the Institute hostel. Under special circumstances this requirement may be relaxed. In case of married doctoral students, they may be permitted to stay outside the campus should they so desire.

    Admission Procedure

    • Those aspiring to be admitted in the Ph.D programme must hold a master's degree or equivalent (such as PGDM) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates appearing for final examination can also apply, provided they satisfy the eligibility requirement by June 30, 2005.

    • Candidates can obtain application form in person or by mail by sending a draft/local cheque of Rs. 500/-favouring "Nirma Institute of Management", payable at Ahmedabad. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their applications and supporting documents and those who are eligible will be called for a written test. The written test will be held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Delhi in March 2005. The short-listed candidates will then be called for personal interview at Ahmedabad in April 2005.

    Completed Application Forms should reach the office by December 6, 2004.
