Great Lakes Institute of Management is a fast growing business school located 65 kms from Chennai, very close to Mahabalipuram in Manamai village..

Dr. Bala V. Balachandran established the institute in the year 2004. He is a professor of Accounting and Information systems at Kellog School of Management, Chicago, USA.


This particular B-school has alliances with Yale, IIT Chicago and Nanyang Technological University. Great Lakes have also collaborated with Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, India, the premier institution in the energy technology and management. The institute is spread over an area of 16 acre with all the modern amenities and offers 100% residential facility to students. Great Lakes have been awarded the ‘Platinum Rated Green Campus’ for its eco friendly standards.


Courses and their fees
Great Lakes offer the aspirants with some of the best courses, to respond to the future business requirements that arise with global changes. The flagship program of the institute is the Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM), which is accredited by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).

1-Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) - is a one-year course divided into seven terms. This program is accredited by AICTE (All India Council Technical Education).


  1. The total fee charged is around Rs. 10, 95, 000, of which
  2. Tuition fees is around Rs. 8, 60, 000,
  3. Other cost is around Rs. 55, 000, while
  4. boarding and lodging is around Rs. 1, 80, 000.

Candidates are required to make one time refundable deposit of Rs. 20, 000 at the time of admission. Other related deposits for formal attire and alumni subscription are Rs. 6, 000 (approx) and Rs. 5, 000 respectively.
1- Post Graduate Global Executive Program in Management (PGXPM) - is a two years part time program with 9 days residency once in a quarter.
The fee structure of the program is around Rs. 6, 00, 000
Plan 1: The first installment of around Rs. 3, 75, 000 to be paid at the time of the admission
Plan 2: The second installment of around Rs. 2, 50, 000 to be paid not later than the last working day of the third trimester.

PGXPM is a compulsorily residential program. Boarding and Lodging is additional and is available at concessional rates at the Campus.

2- Post Graduate Working Professional Program in Management (PGWPM) – is a two years (52 alternate weeks), 8-term academic program. It is held on the residential basis at Manamai campus.

The fee structure of this program is
Plan1: Fee (Installment by single payment) around Rs. 5, 00, 000
Plan2: Installment 1 to be paid at the time of admission is around Rs. 2, 60, 000
Installment 2 to be paid at the beginning of the second year is around 2, 60, 000


3- Global Energy Executive MBA (GEMBA) –is two years part-time program with the first seven residencies of nine days at Great Lakes, Chennai and the last residency of 15 days at CT Bauer College of Business, University of Houston, Texas, USA.


The Program comprises of three major parts - General Management courses, Energy Management courses and in depth project equivalent of two courses credit.


The fee structure of the GEMBA is expected to be around 12, 60, 000 while international students will have to pay $30,000 for the same.

Entrance exam
Great Lakes look at the candidate’s past academic records, work experience, recommendation letters and essays. In addition, performance in GMAT/CAT, Group Discussion and Personal Interview are also considered while evaluating applicants. Recommendation letters should be submitted online along with the application. Recommendations should be from professionals and superiors with substantial work experience. The institute does not accept XAT or MAT score and CAT or GMAT score older than 3 years are not considered for admission.

The number of students in the PGPM batch for 2010-2011 is around 300.
The maximum number of intake for PGXPM is 40.
The total number of seats available for PGWPM is 40.
The number of seats per batch in GEMBA will be 40-45 maximum.
