IIM Calcutta launches 4th batch of Post Graduate Programme for Executives

After successfully completing previous three batches, IIM Calcutta has recently launched the fourth batch of the Post Graduate Programme for Executives in presence of Director, Professor Shekhar Chaudhuri, Dean, Professor Sougata Ray, Chairman – PGPEX, Professor C. Panduranga Bhatta, Chairman, Career Development & Placement, Professor Amit Dhiman and Chief Administrative Officer, Shri Dinesh Varma.

During the event, the students were briefed for the 2010-11 session about the programme structure and various courses offered in different areas during the extended inaugural session.

 

The current batch has 44 students including 5 female students. Out of 44, there are 41 students who have engineering degrees, including 3 who have post graduation, while 2 others with post graduation in science and one from commerce background. The students, who have joined the one-year programme, come from diverse backgrounds such as IT, IT Services and IT Consultancy, Defence services, Telecom and Telecommunications, Software and Software Services, Petroleum, Healthcare, Power, Construction, Banking and Engineering Capital Goods. While IT and IT services industry remains the dominant sector in the batch, the group includes students with a varied background too. Students from Specialised profession like Aerospace, Construction and Defence services have already joined this programme, which underlines the fact that this one year full time residential general management executive education programme would give face value to their professions as well like many others.

 

This year, the average and the highest GMAT score of the batch of students are 710 and 770 respectively. The average age of the students is 33 years while they already have an average total work experience of 9 years. While there were only four female students in the entire batch last year, the number has increased to five this year.

 

The PGPEX course is divided into 7 semesters of approximately 7 weeks each. The first 3 semesters are for compulsory courses while the 4th, 6th and 7th semesters have elective courses wherein the students are entitled to enlist in 18 out of the 39 electives offered to them. The elective courses are conducted by the Institute’s faculty and reputed academicians from India and abroad. The 5th semester is devoted to the International Immersion programme of 4-5 weeks duration wherein the students either do projects in firms in India to hone their all round skills or participate in projects in reputed educational/ business organizations abroad.


In sync with its philosophy of continuous innovation in management education, IIMC launched the One Year Full time residential programme for Executives (PGPEX) in 2006. On successful completion of the programme, participants are awarded a diploma titled “Post graduate Diploma in Management for Executives” (PGPEX). It provides a unique blend of theoretical knowledge, innovative problem solving skills, ethics and human values orientation, case discussions, experience sharing and networking opportunities for the ambitious middle and senior level executives to be prepared for leadership positions in Indian and global organizations.
