IIM Ahmedabad PGPX Placements: Students grab top cluster management roles

 | March 28,2011 11:08 am IST

The 5th batch of the one year, full time, residential Post Graduate Programme in management for Executives – PGPX – at IIM Ahmedabad graduates today. The program, which attracts highly experienced Indian as well as foreign professionals from diverse functional and industry backgrounds each year, has seen excellent placements this year.

The programme has a general management focus, with an emphasis on leadership across borders and cultures and this is reflected in the roles offered to the candidates in the campus placements.

So far, the PGPX students from the class of 2011 have accepted roles such as the Country Head, Vice President, General Manager, Director, Assistant Vice President, Principal Consultant and several other senior managerial positions offered on campus. The batch has seen offers made for positions both in India and abroad. A very diverse group of recruiters – multinationals, Indian business houses, start-ups, SMEs, semi-government entities, NGOs – have sought to recruit from this batch. The list of recruiters includes well known names such as A. T. Kearney, Arthur D. Little, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Corporate Executive Board, Philips, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Google, Facebook, Infosys, TCS, Accenture, CapGemini, Mindtree, Amazon, Polaris, HCL, Hero Honda, Reliance Industries Limited, National e-Governance Division / National Institute for Smart Government, RPG Group, Value and Budget Housing Corporation (VBHC), Infibeam.com, FactSet and the Clinton Foundation.

Three of the 86 students in the class of 2011 have chosen to pursue entrepreneurship and have therefore opted out of placements this year. Eight students from the batch have either found employment opportunities outside of the institute’s placement process or are returning to their previous employers. Of these eight, four students have rejected offers made to them through the institute’s placement process. The remaining 75 students from the batch were joined by 1 alumnus from the class of 2010 who had opted out of placement services in 2010 to pursue an entrepreneurial venture. 105 offers have been made on campus till date to PGPX students. 12 students continue to be in the process looking for the right fit in terms of role, location and designation desired. Some of these students have very niche experience / skill sets while others have rejected offers made to them on campus to look for a better fit.

The institute’s placement office continues to support their career plans by facilitating interaction with firms with the appropriate requirements, till all are placed in roles of their choice.

The PGPX programme follows a rolling placement process. As per international standards the institute will release the placement statistics within 3 months of convocation. IIM Ahmedabad has proposed a Placement Reporting Standard earlier this year. The institute is presently collating all the placements related statistics as per these standards. A detailed report on the PGPX placements at IIM Ahmedabad in 2011 prepared as per these standards will be published shortly.

The institute’s placement chairperson Professor Saral Mukherjee said “The PGPX programme was ranked 11th worldwide in the Global MBA Rankings 2011 by Financial Times. We are very happy to note that in 2011 there has been an increase in the diversity as well as in the overall number of firms that have participated in the PGPX placements. This is evident from the participation of the global consulting and banking majors as well as technology companies apart from the Indian business houses. We intend to keep building on this momentum and invest in developing a better match between recruiter needs and student aspirations and competencies.”
