Introduction

Established in 1973 by the Government of India, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore is a Center of Excellence in the field of management education. The core activity of the institute, is designed to provide management graduates with inputs in the functional areas of Marketing, Finance, Economics & Social Sciences, Information Systems, Operations, Corporate Strategy, International Management, and Personnel Management and Human Resources Management. IIMB graduates share a strong sense of community reflecting their shared experiences and professional goals. The environment at IIMB is cosmopolitan, with its students drawn from all corners of the country and from diverse social and academic backgrounds.


Courses Offered

1. The Post Graduate Programme (PGP)

The two-year Post - Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) is the flagship programme of the Institute. The number of applicants admitted to this programme is limited to around 180. For the academic session 2002-04 the intake was approximately 215 students.

The curriculum undergoes a complete transformation every three years. In addition, it is adapted significantly every year to keep it abreast with the current business environment. IIMB has the distinction of offering the largest variety of elective courses in the second year of the PGP.

There is a strong emphasis on project work as a part of the regular courses at the Institute. While working on projects, students are required to interact with managers from the industry. A number of these projects are sponsored by organizations.

The Post Graduate Programme lasts six trimesters which is spread over two years, with a summer project in between the two years.

The first year students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Personal Management and Human Resources Management, Quantitative methods, Operations and Behavioral Sciences through the 'core courses'. This lay all the foundation for all the functional areas of management helps develop problem-solving skills.
