The Institute has been granted the status of an "Approved Research Centre" of Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University as provided for in the "Regulation in regard to Approved Research Centre & Approved
Supervisor for pursuing Research Studies / guiding research studies for Ph.D. under Clause 4(a) of the University's Ordinance Governing Programmes leading to Degree of "Doctor of Philosophy".

Registration Period Requirement

The Ph.D. programme can be pursued either as a part-time or a full-time student.

(a) The minimum period of registration after which a candidate can submit his/her thesis shall be:

For full-time candidates - Two years from the date of registration.

For part-time candidates - Four years from the date of registration.

(b) A full time candidate shall normally be allowed to submit his thesis within a period of 5 years from the date of registration and part time candidate shall normally be allowed to submit his thesis within duration of six years from the date of registration. However, in exceptional cases, these limits may be extended according to GGSIP University Rules.

Title

On completion of all requirements of Ph.D., the students shall have to submit the thesis which on the recommendations of the Research Committee shall be examined by a panel of examiners as approved by the University. If the examiners report is in favour of the thesis then the students shall be allowed to make an open presentation and defend the work in the presence of the committee. Based on the final recommendations of the committee the successful student shall be awarded the title of "Doctor of Philosophy" by the University.

Course Work

In the first year, the full-time Ph.D. scholars may be required to complete course work as advised by the research committee of IMT. However, part-time Ph.D. scholars are not required to do any course work and are selected only if they are perceived by selection committee to have enough theoretical grounding to pursue their research interests.
