Introduction

Management Development Institute was established in 1973 by IFCI and funded by German Development Bank KFW, along with agencies like UNDP and European commission with the objective of imparting management expertise to practicing managers.

Over the last 30 years, association with organizations like UNDP, J.L.Kellog Graduate School of Management, UNIDO, World Bank, ILO and the German Foundation has facilitated MDI’s mission of endless contributions to the corporate world. MDI has collaborations with Queensland University of Technology, Australia for exchange of faculty and students, with L’Oreal, Paris, for student internships and faculty visits and with International Advertising Association, New York, for student internships. The Institute has similar alliances with McGill University, Canada and International Relations of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, France.

Courses Offered

1. Post Graduate Programme in Management

The Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) at MDI,is a two year full time residential course, is a natural extension and consolidation of the institute's twenty six years of excellence in post-experience management education, research and Consultancy.

This programme attempts to prepare global leaders who create, manage and lead effective change across diverse organizations.

The objectives of the course are:

  • To understand the social, economic, political, technological and ecological environment of modern society and their characteristic values.

  • To help students become effective leaders, who can achieve results which have the potential to transform organizations.

  • To inculcate values of integrity, justice, fairness and facilitate lateral thinking.

  • To develop a global mindset so that the future managers can address the challenges of global competition.

Pedagogy
Teaching methods at the MDI include - lectures, case studies, seminars, group discussions, business games, role plays, simulation exercises, structured and unstructured group work and field visits. The emphasis is on involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts and theories to business requirements. Consistent with advances in teaching technology, the programme integrates the use of computers in learning the basic principles in different functional areas of management. It also enables students to acquire skills in identifying and dealing with complex problems in management.
