6th December 2004

The Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, celebrating 50 years of excellence in management education hosted Prof. Kim Clark, Dean of the Harvard Business School in association with the American Chamber of Commerce for a high tea at the Le Meridian on Monday, the 6th of December.

Prof. Clark spoke on the importance of values in Leadership in today's turbulent world, where he said that leadership values are critical to India's future success.

"As the US and other nations look to secure stronger economic ties with India, many overseas prospective business partners will be asking themselves 'how transparent and effective will our interactions and operations be?'" Prof. Clark said.

"You have with India a long and strong tradition of political and opinion leaders who talked and lived solid values and ethics. The world holds Mahatma Gandhi as perhaps one of the most ethical leaders of this era," he said.

"As you ride the crest of the current economic wave, business and other leaders have an important opportunity to set the ethical tone for the whole country."

Prof. Clark is an expert in leadership, enterprise and product development. During this lecture he focused on the challenge that leaders face in creating an effective integration of values and action at work, in their communities and in their families.

Prof. Clark is the Dean of arguably the most prestigious Business School in the USA; he is highly sought after consultant and keynote speaker. He recently addresses the National Press Club in Washington DC on corporate ethics.

Later, he said he was happy that the B-schools like FMS are taking the lead in providing value based leadership and shaping future corporate leaders in the right way.

The event was also presided over by the Dean of FMS, Prof. V. K. Bhalla and Mr. Sunil Mehta, Chairman, AMACHAM India.

Dean's Message - Half a Century of Shaping Leaders

"The Faculty of Management Studies is India's oldest and one of the most respected B-schools. FMS has always provided leaders to society since its inception in 1954, and its focus on leadership and values has ensured that FMSites all over are leaders in their own respect no matter which sphere of activity they chose to excel in. FMS and Harvard share the same passion and zeal to provide quality education and breed great leaders. More importantly, both are steeped in tradition. FMS actively interacts with the International business community to keep up to date with the multicultural corporate world. It is only natural that we play gracious host to Prof. Clark when he visits India."

"We are sure this will form the basis for a long and fruitful partnership between the two institutions."
