A well-designed simulation game that made the participating teams duel it out for creating the best operations plan for their companies, Opium - The Operations Game was indeed addictive. With over 45 teams participating, this game was very popular amongst the Backwaters participants. Played on computers in real time, the game received some rave reviews from the participants. The team that won against all the competition comprised of Irfan and Mayur from NIILMCMS, while the second position was taken by Gaurav and Nitin from IIMK.

Pitbulls - The Finance Game was based on real time situation on the trading floor with the teams being allowed to trade and make investment decisions on asset classes under varying conditions. After the closely fought financial war, the team that emerged victorious was that of Gagan and Harish from IIMK. The second position was shared by two teams from IIMK again, one team represented by Nilanjan, and the other by Rohan, Ashish, and Ravi.

Backwaters saw overwhelming participation in the paper presentation competitions that were held in all the functional areas such as marketing, finance, systems and operations. Brand Killing - The Marketing Paper was won by Vishnu and Rishiraj from JBIMS, Mumbai. Smruta and Bob from Wellingkar, Mumbai were the runners up. In Sinking Dollar - The Finance Paper, Harsh and Abhinav from IIMK took the top honors. Kunal from IIM Bangalore stood second. In Integrated Ousourcing - The Systems/Operations Paper, the first prize went to Apoorv and Ali from IIM Bangalore while Vishak from IIMK stood second.

There was also a Live Case Study sponsored by Mahindra British Telecom. The case being based on real situations in the telecom industry, there was enthusiastic particpation in the same from the students of management from all over the country. Gautam and Hemant from IIMK stood first in the competition. The second prize in the case study went to Ashwini, again from IIMK.
