Students were keen to learn about usefulness of a double MBA for creating opportunities in foreign banks. K. N. Venkatraman replied in the affirmative but added that it is essential that one works really well and proves ones worth in the organization. The growth opportunities then are unlimited.

When asked about the introduction of a course on derivatives in the first year, he said there are courses that could be floated. He said that some of the courses can be on weather derivatives too although, CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) would provide a very good idea of the derivatives.

K. N. Venkatraman said that a lot of MBAs enter the Insurance sector. The areas that they work on are asset management, security analysis and portfolio analysis. There are lots of other opportunities too. He added that insurance has risk management at its core. In this sector, knowledge of Actuarial sciences would be of great help.

For forex trading, K. N. Venkatraman said that working in a bank provides a good ground for preparation and understanding. He said that no manager can be ignorant of forex trading. It is essential to be aware of risks at global level. Awareness and working of Interest rate integration would be of help.

Commenting on Structured Finance, he said that all notoriety associated with it has been forgotten (referring to Enron). He stated that structured finance remains a very good career option and that no bank can trade without Structured Financing.

Towards the end of the session, Mr. K. N. Venkataraman exhorted students to be very focused and to be clear about their goals. He advised them to muster strong concepts in accounting, capital budgeting and derivatives. He ended the session with the inspiring words, "Nothing can stop you. Take charge of your life."

Concluded.
