Outstanding Summer Placements at NITIE, Mumbai

The summer placements at NITIE have always been outstanding and 2004 was no exception. This year, NITIE campus witnessed a wide assortment of best-known names from both the Indian as well as the international business circles, giving its students plenty of choices and opportunities in securing their summer jobs. With all the big names of India Inc. turning up to recruit the brightest talents for their summers, the students were placed among all sectors of the industry.

This year saw the initiation of the 'Slot' system of placements as compared to the Spot system, in order to give the budding managers a greater choice in receiving this crucial industrial exposure in the companies and areas of their interest. Starting in the first week of September 2004, the process progressed smoothly towards completion with the entire batch getting placed in 42 organizations. The icing on the cake was Barclays Capital picking up 10 students for their summer stint at Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

The heavyweights visiting the campus included the banks like Barclays Capital, Citibank, ICICI Bank. The FMCG brigade was led by the likes of HLL, Procter and Gamble, Nestle, Cadbury, Colgate Palmolive, Asian Paints, Coke, Reckitt Benckiser, Dabur and Marico. The automobile industry was represented by Maruti, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland while companies like Dr. Reddy's, Glenmark and Lupin representing the pharmaceutical industry. The latest doyen of the Indian industry - IT services - had a significant presence with the industry leaders like Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, PCS and Sierra Atlantic visiting the campus while consultancy assignments were provided by Ernst & Young, Bristlecone and Intel.

Barclays Capital led the way with as many as 10 offers followed closely by ICICI bank (9) and Citibank (4). Other major companies offers were: Maruti (6), Wipro (5), Sierra Atlantic (6), TCS (3) and Intel (2).
