International Workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility
at XIM, Bhubaneswar

Challenges and Innovative Solutions

Previous

There were other questions like "Is water a common good?", "Is access to clean drinking water a Human Right?", which stimulated several interesting debates among the eager participants. The panel stressed on the need of not resorting to CSR, only as a fire fighting exercise, but to consider it as a practice, or a set of practices that allow us to meet the needs of this generation, without hurting the ability of the future generations to meet their requirements.

The panel, however, cautioned that CSR was not a panacea and emphasized that in order to achieve and practice sustainable CSR, we need to move beyond compliance and address many more stakeholders.

The second segment concentrated upon CSR and Innovative Solutions, which was taken up by Harsha Desai and Gerard Athaide.

It has been said that "the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over but expecting a different result." In this seminar, the panel discussed how to do things differently in order to get the innovative results required. The panel stressed upon the fact Innovation is the key to success in Entrepreneurship, especially in today's highly competitive world.

The workshop had several activities, which gave the participants to come up with innovative solutions to common problems in the field of CSR and MNCs.

The workshop was a huge success and widely appreciated since it helped the participants to develop an innovative approach to creating and establishing the goals or projects that will propel their company forward in a competitive marketplace, establish personal milestones, and deliver on all dreams. It also made them appreciate ways and practices to ensure that CSR becomes a tool for competitiveness, what are the CSR priorities in the workplace, how can CSR best contribute to social development, what can be learned from international CSR initiatives and most importantly how can Indian business improve transparency and disclosure in a sustainable manner.

Concluded.
