Workshop on Commodity Markets - Commodex - Successfully Concludes at FMS, Delhi
Post-event Press-release

National Commodity Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) conducted COMMODEX - a two-day Workshop on Commodity Markets at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, which was organised by the students of MBA (Management of Services) program at South Campus on 29th and 30th July 2006. This initiative aimed to educate the participants about this fast emerging trading platform.

FMS pioneered the Two-Year Full-Time MBA (Management of Services) keeping in mind the changing paradigms in international management education. This course aspires to be specially attuned to the demands of the services sector and expects to make significant contribution by increasing the sensitivity to the nuances of productivity and quality of services. The programme has several unique features, which not only distinguishes it from existing MBA courses but also achieves the necessary customization for the service sector. It offers parallel specialization, which is an innovative combination of Sectoral and Functional Specialization.

The event commenced with a team from NCDEX conducting a two-day workshop on commodities and derivatives trading. The workshop imparted knowledge to the participants regarding the commodity markets in India, their evolution, product conceptualization, design and contract specifications, risk mitigants and settlement processes. It was supported by a demo of an NCDEX trading terminal to view live action on the quotes placed by the market players. The workshop got an overwhelming response as students from various premier B-schools like IIFT, IIT-Delhi, IMT, IMI, MFC, ICFAI, MBE, etc., came to attend the workshop.

Prof. C. D. Bhattacharya, Dean (FMS), delivered the keynote address of the workshop. In his inaugural speech, he emphasized on the increasing importance of commodity markets in India.

The first session was on Introduction & Trading on NCDEX Platform. Mrs. Uma Mohan, Head of Consumer Services at NCDEX, in this session briefly discussed the fundamentals of the derivatives and commodities. She also explained the different strategies of hedging, arbitrage and speculation comprehensively.
