Great Lakes Institute Celebrates Cultural Fest "Sangmitra"

Great Lakes witnessed its Cultural Fest - "Sangmitra" - coupled with the "Dandiya Night" celebrations. It was an event, which was made possible owing to the dedication and hard work of EVENTZ Committee of the college, and all the students who chipped in with their bit.

Sangmitra started off with lighting of lamps and 'isht vandana' by Preethy followed by a short address by Executive Director, Prof. Sriram, that was very motivating and knowledgeable as usual. The show was awesome with some stunning dance performances - both western and classical. Both the comperes Shriram and Roshik were entertaining the crowd with their lively comments and mimicry. Coming to group dances, they were equally delightful. Songs by Akshat and Narendran were delivered with the panache of professional singers. Enthusiasm amongst students was at an all time high; this was because of the toil of the past six months without a worthwhile break.

Awards were distributed to the students with a difference. These are called as GLOSCARS (Great Lakes Oscars). Students with funny smiles, special features, popularity, etc., were given the prizes, and it was fun to see everybody cheering them up while they were accepting their awards.

Cultural events eventually came to an end, but there was more to the show. The floor was set open for the Dandiya enthusiasts. Everybody started off with their sticks and soon the stage and the ground was overcrowded by all the Crusaders (that is the name of our batch) doing the Dandiya. Some people were teaching the novices about the techniques to play and some were just doing the Bhangra even though the music was Dandiya beats based. Food had been served by the time and people were having delicious food with yummy ice-creams and hot gulab jamuns. The show stopped because everybody was tired (only physically) but not before a few dance numbers where people showed their dancing skills enhanced by the funky music, thanks to the in-house DJ.

It was a memorable night for the crusaders.

Concluded.
