MICA Holds AICTE Accreditation Awareness Programme

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad saw the conclusion of the All India Council for Technical Education's (AICTE) Accreditation Awareness Programme recently. The programme was successful in addressing the concerns and doubts about the accreditation process followed by the AICTE.

Prof. Atul Tandan, Director, MICA, welcomed the hundred and fifty odd dignitaries present for the accreditation programme. Dr. Prasad Krishna and Dr. Tabassum Naqwi addressed the group. Also Mr. K. G. K. Pillai, Registrar, MICA, concluded the programme with a vote of thanks. The event was attended by the authorities of many management and engineering colleges across the state of Gujarat.

A clear message sent out by the AICTE speakers in the programme, was that the council does not accredit the educational institution but instead it accredits the programme which is offered by that educational institution. A long and detailed procedure was explained efficiently by the AICTE speakers. It was clear that the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) follows stringent regulations before it considers accrediting any programme.

Parameters like the number of faculty and other staff members, students, financial and physical resources, industry-institute interaction, research and development, are observed and marked by the AICTE. Apart from these quantitative parameters, the accreditation team also assesses the academic ambience, institutional morale, student facilities, capabilities of staff and their knowledge, review of student assessment, etc.

The programme also initiated some fiery discussions and debates between the participants and the speakers. Several ideas were exchanged in order to make the AICTE process better and more practically relevant to the academic industry. Accreditation for a programme is an important facet to let the students, parents and the stake-holders (recruiters) know that the programme is competent and provides well-grounded technical and managerial knowledge and skills. AICTE's accreditation process is structured on par with international standards so as to assess all educational institutions on a strict basis. This is said to definitely help the Indian institutes to compete with international institutes and maintain specific and uniform standards throughout the country.

Concluded.
