The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) is organizing Synapse 2005, its annual marketing seminar, at the institute's campus in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala, on July 23rd and 24th, 2005. The event is supported by CII, and ITC is the Platinum Sponsor for the seminar. The online media partner for the event is Exchange4Media. The event is organized by MPower, the marketing interest group at IIMK. This seminar will present a platform for top marketing gurus in the country to share their experiences and learnings with their industry peers and current MBA students who aspire to become socially aware and technically skilled managers and entrepreneurs.

The theme of the seminar is "The Brand New World: Local Competencies, Global Challenges". This is reflective of the evolving realities of marketing in today's richly diverse, yet deeply interconnected world. There is a unique challenge facing the marketing fraternity today - a marketplace where the consumer is internationally aware while retaining her local identity. It is now increasingly necessary for brand managers to stay sensitive to the needs of the community and still maintain the brand's international appeal.

The intent of IIMK in conducting this seminar is precisely to discuss these complex issues, which are of burning relevance in today's marketing arena. The aim of Synapse 2005 is to demystify the jargon, to pierce the veil of buzzwords that surrounds and screens marketing knowledge today, and often hinders the true learning that comes from experience. The seminar will offer an experience that will cover marketing across the whole spectrum, from the creativity behind advertising to the nitty-gritty of retail.

The speakers at the event are amongst the celebrated names in the marketing and branding fraternity and whose competency has stood the test of time. They range across various corporate sectors and academia.
