IIM Lucknow Inducts New PGPM Batch with Session on Business Ethical Practices & Value System

In order to inculcate ethical business practices and sound value system in its new batch of students, IIML took the initiative of inviting Swami Muktinathananda, a monk of high stature, to inaugurate the new batch (23rd batch) of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) students.

Swami Muktinathananda, President of Ramakrishna Math and Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram, delivered a lecture on business ethics and value system during the induction of the new batch of the PGPM (2007-09) on 21st June 2007 at IIML and was well-received by the students.

In today’s times, the recruiters are placing increasingly greater emphasis on value systems and ethics among the managers they recruit. In such a scenario, it has become essential for global managers to not only learn the right management techniques but also to have a sense of responsibility and business ethics.

The newly-appointed Chairman of IIML, Dr. J. J. Irani also addressed the new batch. He pointed out the lack of training of ethics in the education system today and urged the students to become ethical, dutiful and just citizens of the country and to control their appetite for controversy.

"IIML has always believed that a well-rounded business manager is one who has his feet firmly planted on ground with a strong value-system. Today, in the global scenario, the emphasis is as much on doing things as on doing things right and this is where a firm moral grounding holds Indian students in good stead," says Dr. Devi Singh, Director, IIM Lucknow.

IIML has been inviting Swami Muktinathananda on various occasions but this is the first time that he has inaugurated the PGPM. In his pre-monastic life, Swami Muktinathananda has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Applied Science from the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada. He has been involved in various rehabilitation and social welfare activities.

Concluded.
