FMS Students Fulfill their Social Responsibility by Holding 'Silent Auction'

Globally businesses are waking up to the far reaching implications of corporate social responsibility not just on their profit margins but also on the nation as a whole. At FMS-Delhi, the students rightly believe that corporate social responsibility is about tradition and culture and goes much beyond charity.
As a step in that direction, a small step was taken by the newly formed Social Service Cell - Vihaan - in this regard by means of the Silent Auction.

A novel way of contributing to the society, the Silent Auction is an activity where-in students from both the years offer items for sale and engage in intense bidding for the items they desire to buy.

This year saw many innovative items being put on offer by the students ranging from coffee dates to gyaan sessions by the toppers. The highest money getter was ‘Financial Accounting Sessions’ by a senior, an intensely fought bid by the first year students. The coffee and dinner dates were very interesting as it provided an official reason for informal interaction between the students. Also the bike lessons that were put on offer had many takers especially from the fairer sex, breaking the myth that women don’t ride bikes.

Customized homemade food for a week at only Rs. 500 was a steal, so was the unlimited chocolate cake and ice-cream treat that was sold for Rs. 270. With good music, lots of fun, and loads of energy, the ambience of the auction was appreciated by all. It was very exciting to have 200 bright individuals battling each other in an attempt to out-bid one another, all for the benefit of the society at large.

Vihaan President, Mr. Ashish Agarwal, said, "Looking at the enthusiasm shown by the students, Vihaan intends to organize more such events through the course of the year. The fact that we during the three hours of the auction managed to collect approximately Rs. 21,000 shows the success of the event."

Vihaan has decided that this year also the money would be utilized for the education of girl children, as illiteracy especially of females, is a huge roadblock to our growth. A similar activity was organized last year and the amount raised had helped in the funding of three girl children.

The auction not only brought forward innovative ideas of the budding managers of FMS but also reinforced the fact that the youth of today is socially responsible.

Concluded.
