Great Lakes to Help Ministry of Corporate Affairs Set-up IICA at Delhi

Great Lakes Institute of Management (Great Lakes) is to help the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in setting up the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) in New Delhi, as the government wanted to model IICA after the Chennai-based B-school, Great Lake's founder said.

Mr. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder and Honorary Dean of Great Lakes, told reporters in Chennai on Wednesday that the B-school, in association with a network of academics, thought leaders and stakeholders, would submit a white paper on the proposed institute by this year-end. This would include proposals on the institute's organisational structure, governance, curriculum among others.

According to a government release, the institute would require Rs. 211.00 crore of investment. The government has allocated Rs. 47 crore during the current financial year. The broad objectives include capacity building/training for the Indian Company Law Service (ICLS) and subordinate cadres, provision of value-added services with the implementation of MCA 21 e-governance project and service delivery in areas like investor education and corporate governance.

The institute is also envisaged to serve as a think-tank for the ministry to provide a dynamic response to the changing business environment, and support it in taking up initiatives that are responsive to the expectations of the stakeholders and the corporate sector. Mr. S. Sriram, Executive Director, Great Lakes, said IICA would seek to fill the gap in training and research, not being covered by the present B-schools and industry bodies.

Mr. Sriram said that Great Lakes in association with the North American Society for Marketing Education in India will hold an International Conference in Chennai on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22, 2007. The theme will be "Creating, Communicating & Delivering Value in Growing Markets". The Kotler-Srinivasan Centre of Research in Marketing of Great Lakes is sponsoring the event.

Concluded.
