'Go East' is the New Call, say Visionaries at Lakshya '07 at NITIE
Report on Lakshya 2007 Inaugural Ceremony

The grand corporate event, Lakshya 2007 witnessed the icons pouring in the NITIE campus from myriad celebrated industrial houses of India. The occasion was to bestow 'Lakshya Business Visionary Award 2007' upon Mr. Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd. and Mr. Rama Prasad Goenka,
Chairman, Emeritus RPG Group. Mr. Kumar Subramanian, CEO, Adventity and NITIE alumnus was awarded 'Best Start-up Entrepreneur' and Mr. Tulsi Tanti, Chairman, Suzlon Energy Ltd. was awarded the 'Most Inspiring Entrepreneur' for the year 2007. All the dignitaries highlighted the growing importance of empowerment of business in India through innovation and leadership and capitalizing the plethora of business opportunities in India.

The event commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Subhash D. Awale, Director, NITIE, who also felicitated the awardees with Lakshya and Empresario awards. He defined the need for Industry-Institute interaction as the essence to learn from the leaders of the industry through events like Lakshya.

Mr. Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd. Receiving 'Lakshya 2007 Business Visionary Award' from Dr. Subhash D. Awle, Director, NITIE-Mumbai.

Mr. Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd., in his charismatic speech, said, "The GDP growth rate of 9% is quite sustainable even though the business environment in India is not as conducive as it can be." It requires some dedicated and focused efforts towards bringing out a significant metamorphosis in hitherto lagging agriculture sector, while small change in industrial policy can provide the required impetus for maintaining high growth rate in service sector. With India becoming the land of new opportunities, the hitherto call of 'Go West' is now getting replaced by 'Go East'. Accentuating the need for good leaders in India, he said, "Leadership is not only about charisma and showmanship. It's more about forthrightness, consistency, tolerance and most importantly, uncompromising integrity."
