AIMS'05: IT Thought Leaders Share their Vision at IIM K Mr. Sunil Chitale, Senior VP & Head, Manufacturing SBU, Patni, next spoke on IT sevices in the context of offshoring. He emphasized on how IT solutions were not about the lowest cost, but about solving the right problems. He stated that there was a certain lack of creatively among the Indian IT companies in analyzing the problem and asking the right questions and said that these very skills were imperative to move up the value chain. Mr. Viswanathan Krishnamurthi, CIO, Yahoo! Bangalore was the final speaker. His theme was based on scalability in engineering services. He remarked that companies like Yahoo have to be enablers of the always-on, connected life. Through the example of Yahoo's acquisitions over the last decade, he drove home how each company had its own way of bringing products to life, and how all these niche players were glued the right way to address scalability. He discussed both technical and business aspects of Yahoo's growth from being a mail portal to today's multi-category media powerhouse. "On listening to such people, one understands that classroom learning must be seen from a real world perspective," said Ms. Malavika Narayan, a first year student. Kashyap Chanchani, a co-coordinator for the event, was happy at the successful conclusion of AIMS and added, "We always try to get the best people to come to campus and share from the wealth of their diverse experiences. The knowledge gain that accompanies the talks given by such top minds is incalculable." AIMS'05 also saw an exciting exhibition featuring Encore Software Limited's range of innovative products - the Simputer (a low-cost Personal Computer with multiple connectivity options), Mobilis (an ultra compact device combining the high mobility of a PDA with the convenience of a laptop screen and connectivity of a desktop) and Sathi (a fully integrated battle field mobile device). The paper writing competition sponsored by Satyam and organized as part of AIMS'05 was a big success with participation from premier B-schools across the nation. The first prize was bagged by Kiran R. of IIM Kozhikode and the second prize was won by Rishi Vijay and Lijo Isac from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi. Concluded.
