DoMS, IIT Delhi Wins North Zonal Round of ET Citi Grandmasters Challenge

Anuj Jalote and Ashish Sharma, two students of the Department of Management Studies, at IIT Delhi have trounced other top North Indian B-schools in the Delhi Zone of 'ET Citi Grand Masters Challenge' held at IIT Delhi. Gyanesh Kumar Sinha
and Sujith S. from FMS, Delhi and Ashish Lath and Narendra Bansal from IMT, Ghaziabad were joint runners-up. Other teams that were selected to the zonal round after a case study competition were from FMS, Delhi, IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow. The case-study for the qualifiers was judged by an eminent panel from ICRA.

The three rounds event began in the morning of 13th January 2009 with a bourse game, which was followed by a debate (or debatelets, as the comparer called it) and a quiz. Each of the rounds was to contribute equally to decide the winner.

Winners of ET Citi Grandmasters North Zonal Round with Event Organizers

The atmosphere at the seminar hall, IIT Delhi, was totally charged up and saw the audience holding their breaths as the event proceeded. In the second round, i.e., the debate, there were three topics, for each of which two teams were called on stage with one participant speaking for the motion and the other against from each team.

The last round was a quiz. Apart from the participants, it had much for the audience too, who won prizes ranging from Samsonite bags to sunglasses. In this round, DMS made some early gains. The other teams caught up later in the game. However, the DMS team had the last laugh as they won in a closely contested quiz. The audience had to wait till the very last question to know who the winner was, and that too, with lots of drama. The final buzzer came before the quizmaster could even finish the question, and the daring attitude of the DMS team saw them top the quiz.

The debate was moderated by Mr. Andrew Scolt of Derek and Co. Derek O'Brien was also the quiz master.

The DMS team will compete with other zonal winners at the National Finals to be held at Mumbai on 22nd January 2009.

Concluded.
