Annual Cultural Festival of IIM Bangalore, 'Unmaad 2009', to Honor the Spirit of India
Theme: "The Spirit of India"
On January 30 - February 1, 2009

The IIM-B campus at Billekahalli is buzzing, and not with the shooting of '3 Idiots'. Instead, preparations are underway for the Cultural Festival, Unmaad 2009. Slated from January 30th to February 1st, 2009, this annual extravaganza will feature a
performance by KK, dance workshops by Shiamak Davar Troupe, and a bevy of competitions with participation from colleges across the country. "We're committed to ensuring that every visitor to Unmaad has an experience they'll never forget," says Arup Halder, Cultural Secretary, IIM Bangalore.

Unmaad 2009 will honor the Spirit of India - its culture, diversity and, most of all, its resilience. In a salute to the spirit of cities ravaged by terror attacks, Unmaad 2009 is meant to carry a message - the youth of India will not allow terrorism or recessions, bureaucracy or slow-downs to deter them from what they want to achieve - a united India, deeply rooted in its cultural heritage, but aspiring to be the best at whatever it wants to be.

Unmaad, in the past, has always been a must-attend cultural fest, with plenty of competitions to whet every palate. Participants from every metro in the country will be among the 20,000 who attend the three-day festival, to participate in music, dramatics, dance, fine arts and literary events. The large number of events open to corporate participants has also ensured that Bangalore's IT population throngs the IIM-B campus on the Unmaad week-end. The online quizzes this year have already received overwhelming participation from almost every software company, as well as every reputed college in the country.

While budding models will set the ramp ablaze in the Fashion Show, only the smartest and wittiest will reach the final round of Mr. & Ms. Unmaad. The free-style dance competition, Footloose, will allow new styles and interpretations of dance; and the Choreography Competition will allow teams to convey diverse themes through dance and music. Unmaad 2009 will take rock to another dimension with the Semi-professional Rock Competition, B-school of Rock, where invited bands from across the country will contend late into the night, as they vie for acclaim and huge prizes, including airtime on radio and a CD release. For those bands still finding their footing, Unmaad also has the Battle of the Bands, where amateur bands can compete for a shot at fame and fortune.

Another major attraction at Unmaad 2009 will be the Pro-Nite by Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK where he will take the stage to amaze the 10,000 strong crowd with favorites like 'Tadap Tadap Se' and 'Pal'. Parul Bajaj, a first year student at IIM-B and a part of the organizing team, sums it up when she says, "I can't wait for KK! Pro-Nites are always a raving success with the audience, and with a star like KK, this year is going to be no different."

With preparations in full swing, registrations piling up, and ticket sales gaining momentum, one could almost imagine that Unmaad starts tomorrow. The enthusiasm can only be expected to soar in the next two weeks, as the city gets set to witness one of the most exciting fests in the country - Unmaad 2009, the Spirit of India!
