IIM Kozhikode Launches Mentorship Programme to Guide its Call-Getters Through GD/PI

Mentorship '09, an initiative to guide IIM-K call-getters through the GD/PI process, was launched by IIM Kozhikode on Friday, 9th January, the day of the CAT 2008 results.

The IIM Kozhikode Mentorship Programme answers the various queries that call-getters have and guides them through the entire process. It was launched in 2008 for the 12th batch of the PGP programme. In its first year itself, it met with tremendous success, with over 1000 registrations on the mentorship site. With an aim of making it bigger and better, IIM Kozhikode is back with Mentorship '09, the mentorship programme for the 2009-11 PGP Batch at IIM-K.

The mentorship programme is a completely student-driven initiative and is independent of the admission process. However, it has the backing of the administration, which recognizes the need for one-to-one counseling, which can help the best talent enter the institute. The programme is managed through the mentorship site, http://mentor.iimklive.com, which is a part of the Students' Portal of IIM-K, http://www.iimklive.com, the one stop place to get a taste of life at God's own campus.

Each call-getter is assigned a mentor, who will guide him or her through the whole process, providing continuous support from the date of announcement of results till the final offers are announced. Mentors conduct Online GDs, Mock Personal Interviews and also offer counseling over the telephone in case the candidates feel the need for it. They offer feedback based on these exercises which can go a long way in improving the candidate's performance. In fact, so successful was last year's programme, that several mentees who joined other institutes are still in touch with their mentors. Mentors also provide reading material or ideas for structuring the process based on individual profiles.

Another part of the mentorship programme is online support on aspirant community sites.

With Mentorship '09, IIM Kozhikode hopes to take things to a new high, and achieve the main goal of providing support to candidates, while at the same time ensuring that the institute benefits by the right candidates making it through the process.
