IIM-C Director, Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri, Receives 'Bharat Asmita Acharya Shrestha Award 2009'

Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri, Director, IIM Calcutta, a noted academician in the areas of strategic management, management of technology and innovation and international management, is the recipient of Bharat Asmita Acharya Shrestha Award 2009. The award was given by the Vice President of India, Shri Mohd. Hamid Ansari on February 3 in New Delhi. The award carries an inscribed certificate (Tamra Patra), a prize of INR 1,25,000/- and a memento.

Bharat Asmita National Awards have been constituted by MAEER's (The Maharashtra Academy of Engineering & Educational Research) MIT (Maharashtra Institute of Technology) Group of Institutions, Pune in order to acknowledge the true contribution towards nation building exercises in the fields of management education, public awakening through effective use of literature, art, cinema, press, social service and/or NGOs & parliamentary representation.

Graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 1972 with a B.Tech. (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prof. Chaudhuri worked for L&T, Mumbai as a Graduate Engineer Trainee. In 1975, he joined the Fellow Programme in Management at IIM Ahmedabad where he specialized in Business Policy. On completion in 1979, he joined Calico Mills, Ahmedabad where he initially worked as Staff Assistant to the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, and later as Manager-Cloth Department and Manager-Organization Development Cell.

In 1981, Prof. Chaudhuri moved into academics and joined IIM Ahmedabad as an Assistant Professor in the Business Policy area, and in November 2002, he joined IIM Calcutta as Director.
