IIM Calcutta to Organize Workshop on Use of Wireless Sensor Networks to Manage Agricultural Productivity Better
On February 25, 2009

IIM Calcutta is going to organize a one-day workshop on "Use of Wireless Sensor Networks for Better Management of Agricultural Productivity" at Tata Hall, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, on 25th February 2009 from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM.

The workshop is organized in collaboration with Media Lab Asia, Government of India and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kolkata. The participants would be from the industry who are working in different layers of this agricultural and allied sector and would like to adopt innovative technologies in practice to improve their operation and management. Prof. Somprakash Bandyopadhyay, MIS Group & Project Director, AgroSense Project of IIM Calcutta would convene the event.

The objective of this workshop is to provide a common forum for the exchange of opinions of experts from various agriculture-related sectors on the benefits of monitoring agricultural-parameters in real-time using sensor-based wireless network or similar innovative technologies for better management and maintenance of agricultural production.

IIM Calcutta is working on an R&D project entitled "Real Time Monitoring of the Climatological Conditions of Agricultural Field For Precision Agriculture using Sensor-based Wireless Mesh Networks" funded by Media Lab Asia, Govt. of India, where they have developed a wireless sensor based system for real-time monitoring of agricultural parameters and for better management of agricultural production.
