Canada's Schulich School of Business Associates with SPJIMR; Launches New MBA Program in India

The Schulich India MBA is among the first MBA programs to be delivered in India through a collaboration involving an Indian business school and an international business school. The new MBA program has been established through a unique twinning
arrangement between two leading schools - the S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) in Mumbai, India and the Schulich School of Business, Toronto, Canada. SPJIMR is rated among the top three private business schools in India and Schulich is rated number one in Canada and among the world's leading business schools. Each of the business schools has a strong global orientation and an international network of partners.

The Schulich India MBA Program is anticipated to begin in January 2010. Students enrolled in the program will complete the first year of the Schulich India MBA at SPJIMR in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. Students will then complete the second year of the program at the Schulich School of Business, located in Toronto, the commercial capital of Canada.

"We're very proud and excited about this collaboration with the S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research to provide one of the first truly international MBA degree programs offered in India," said Schulich Dean, Dr. Dezsö J. Horváth. Dr. Horváth was named 'International Dean of the Year' in 2004 by the Academy of International Business, and recently received the 'Order of Canada', that country's highest civilian honour, for his academic leadership and sustained commitment to business education. "The launch of the Schulich India MBA is an important step in realizing our goal of becoming a truly global business school. The program will also provide tremendous opportunities for Indian students looking to acquire world-class management training." Added Dr. Horváth: "The Schulich India MBA aims to attract the best and the brightest students from India and prepare them for global careers in India and around the world."

"We look forward to working with Schulich on this significant new MBA program - one that will provide diverse international perspectives and an opportunity to synthesize Western efficiency and Eastern ethos," said Dr. Manesh L. Shrikant, Honorary Dean of the S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research. "This initiative continues our strategic approach of collaborating with leading schools of management education from around the world."

The Executive Director of the Schulich India MBA Program is Dr. Ashwin Joshi, Schulich Associate Professor of Marketing. The Schulich India MBA Program will be delivered in person by faculty members from the Schulich School. Their teaching will be complemented by resident adjunct faculty from SPJIMR, which will also work with Schulich in implementing the curriculum. The program is currently awaiting final approval from AICTE.

Schulich's ties to India go back more than 15 years. The School has exchange partner agreements with a number of India's leading management schools, including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad. In 2005, Schulich opened a representative office in Mumbai to recruit talented students to the School's undergraduate (BBA) and graduate (MBA) programs in Toronto; to assist Schulich students and alumni with career planning and career opportunities in India; to provide Executive and Leadership Development programming for Indian executives; and to provide support to Schulich's alumni chapter in India.

Concluded.
