SIOM, Nashik Conducts Workshop on Business Process Re-engineering

Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (SIOM), Nashik conducted a two-day workshop on Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) on March 25 and 26, 2009. The workshop had eight separate sessions which were attended by first
year MBA (Operations Management) students of the institute.

The resource person and coach for the workshop was Mr. Kanwal K. Muthu. Mr. Muthu, who is B.E. (Mechanical) from Bombay University, M.Tech (Production & Industrial Engineering) from IIT Delhi, PGDBM from West Berlin, Germany and DIM from IGNOU, carried a vast experience of over 43 years in teaching, research, industry and consulting. Mr. Muthu has co-authored a book and has over 40 publications in technical journals. Some of the teachings of Mr. Muthu have been manifested in the form of 4 video-cassettes, one of which on Total Quality Management (TQM) was also tele-cast on Doordarshan. Mr. Muthu, who is a fellow of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, Institute of Standards Engineers and All India Management Association, is also the Director of Quality Circle Forum of India.

The two-day workshop covered the following topics for the participants: -

  • Strategy, Benchmarking, Business Process Re-engineering & Change Management
  • Quality Initiatives, TQM & Quality Circles
  • People Management, Leadership, Team Building & Competencies
  • Japanese Management Techniques, 5-S, Gemba Kaizen, TPM & JIT
  • General Management, Operations Effectiveness, Time Management, Value Engineering & Cost Rationalization and Lean Manufacturing
  • The workshop is the latest in a series of endeavours by SIOM to boost the understanding and exposure of its students in the field of Operations Management. In view of the economic slowdown, SIOM has been making an effort to further boost the knowledge and understanding of its students in the field of Operations Management, so that they are well-prepared for the challenges that are likely to come their way.
