Inauguration of Annual Management Festival, "Parivartan '09", Held at DMS, IIT Delhi

The much-awaited auspicious occasion of the 13th Edition of "PARIVARTAN '09" - the Annual Management Festival of Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi - began with much fanfare on April 3. 2009. Dr. G. V. G. Krishnamurthy, former Chief Election
Commissioner of India, was the chief guest for the event. The session also had the presence of Dr. S. S. Yadav, H.O.D. of DMS and Dr. V. Gautam.

The session began with Dr. Yadav addressing the students. He gave a brief outline of the management programme at the Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, for the guests and the participants. He also gave a brief outline of the events being held under the umbrella of Parivartan '09. Wishing Parivartan a success, he handed over the proceedings to Dr. V. Gautam.

Dr. Gautam talked about the importance of change and its implications. His speech was marked with beautiful anecdotes, related to change and democracy. He narrated the tales of Roosvelt, Churchil and Hitler, and pointed that "what is right is not always correct and what is correct is not always right".

His speech was followed by Dr. G. V. G. Krishnamurthy addressing the students. Dr. Krishnamurthy highlighted the rich treasure of ancient Indian management, benchmarking it against the western management. Rishi Vashistha, Bhishma, and Chanakya, the three great gurus from ancient India and their teachings were discussed next. He shared with students his experience of managing three general elections in the world's largest democracy, and the concerns which he had in his mind. He said that India has the best brains but lacks technology. He summarized this thought with an equation IT+IT=IT where the first IT stands for Indian talent, second one for International technology and the third for India of twenty first century.

The inauguration was followed by a Telecom Summit which saw eminent speakers from the industry. The summit was chaired by Prof. Ravi Shankar, from DMS, IIT Delhi. The speakers at the summit were Mr. Satyan N. Gupta, Chief Regulatory Advisor, BT Global Services, SAARC Region, Kapil Dev Kumar, CEO, Smart Digvision Pvt. Ltd., Commodore J. Jena, Senior Director, Cellular Operator Association of India, Dr. K. V. Damodaran, Joint Advisor, TRAI, Dr. R. K. Mehrotra, telecom professional, and Prof. Subrat Kar.

Concluded.
