Hard Work, Long Hours, Fun... and Much More at IIMB

Previous

"Apprehensions of what to expect from the top management school in India, would people here be down to earth despite their intellectual brilliance, were some of the things on my mind like any normal fresher. But notions were soon dispelled. The pace is so maddening here that one hardly has time even to lick one's wounds! Juggling activities with academics, all the management fundas are put to a live test right here," says Rohit, Coordinator, FII.

VISTA has a budget of Rs. 3.5 million and there are 8000 footfalls during the two days of the fest. Preparing for all this and organising it sounds humongous but what impresses the most is that all this happens simultaneously with grueling academics. That never takes a backseat inspite of such work pressures. There are still classes to attend, courses to take, surprise quizzes to study for, cases to be solved and projects to be researched and submitted. Balancing such a heavy workload is something the team has learnt through the months. They run from classes to projects, group discussions to meetings with corporates. It is amazing how they shift roles with great ease. Working from anywhere between 14 and 20 hours a day, and many a times for days at a single stretch has helped the students how to manage time, work and to maintain their composure even under high stress and high pressure situations.

Culcom is the cultural committee that is responsible for organising IIMB's cultural activities, including Unmaad, the largest B-school cultural festival in the country. Also, there are clubs that are dedicated to specific fields of management like MASH for marketing activities, Networth for Finance related activities, ICON for consulting, Entrepreneurship & Innovation Cell for developing innovating start-ups and MARS for retailing and local merchandising among many others.

Ravi Karthik, President of FII says, "It's a humbling experience. Last year one single week gave us all; a tinge for what life at IIMB is all about. We had VISTA 04, our submissions, Deepavali and inter-hostel activities all in within a period of just seven days. All of us without exception worked for more than 22 hours a day, for seven days in a row. Work hard but party harder was the order of the day! Its fun, hectic, yet so exhilarating! Life at IIMB rulzzzzzz!"

Concluded.
