BIM's "Crescita 2005 - Kartavya" Held at Bangalore The last speaker of the pre-lunch session of ‘Kartavya’ was Mr. S. Narayanswamy, the DGM of the State Bank of India. His was a thought-provoking presentation on Microfinance initiatives taken by the State Bank of India and its relevance as CSR. He said that burning issues like the empowerment of women were addressed through these efforts. In addition to helping the underprivileged, the concept of Microfinance also helped many Self Help Groups to stand on their own feet and sustain themselves in the long run. He ended his speech with an invitation to all BIMites to approach the State Bank of India with such innovative and visionary ideas. BIMites utilized the lunch break which followed Mr. Narayanswamy’s speech to photograph themselves with the dignitaries. The lunch was superb. The ladies were wearing their ‘Kartavya Sarees’ on that day with the guys sporting their college blazers. The cooperation extended by the BIMites was an excellent boost for the event organizers. The post lunch session on Day 2 of ‘Crescita 2005 Kartavya’ was dedicated to a panel discussion on Corporate Social Responsibility. The panel consisted of Smt. Shukla Bose, the Founder-CEO of Parikrama Humanity Foundation, Mr. M. P. Pillai, Professor of Corporate Law, NSLIU, Mr. Alex Anburaj, Senior Manager, Murugappa Group, Mr. Manoj Chakravarti, GM - Corporate Communications, Titan Industries Ltd. and Mr. G. Madhavan, Senior Manager, Murugappa Group. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Raghuvir Srinivas, Corporate Editor, Business Line. The discussion centred on issues like creating wealth in harmony with society. The dignitaries defined a new triple bottom-line comprising of the Planet, the People and finally the Profit. They also went to great lengths to emphasize the need for balancing the stakeholder needs with the needs of the community. It was a very interesting affair with the industry position being vouched for by a few participants, the social view being expressed by a few others and the legal aspects being elucidated upon by others.
