IIM, Ahmedabad Successfully Concludes "Confluence 2009"

Mr. Nitin Gupta stressed that the four qualities essential in future leaders were Humility, Versatility, Innovation and a Long Term Outlook. He further emphasized the importance of human capital for a corporation's success and a need for change in attitude to value human capital more.

Mr. Madhukar Kamath spoke about the changing landscape of advertising with the advent of new media communication paradigms and stressed the importance of including vernacular and rural strategies to realize the potential of Indian markets.

Mr. S. B. Dangayach criticized the focus of management institutes and young graduates to focus on just two careers, consulting and finance, and highlighted the need for managers to embrace the needs of the Indian industries for entrepreneurial and forward looking managers in a global environment.

Ms. Meenu Handa stressed the importance of communication and information infrastructure growth to realize the full potential of connecting various markets and bringing together opportunities and facilities with consumers. She also spoke about the role of multinational corporations in benefiting society and those social initiatives ultimately made good business sense for success.

Ms. Preetha Reddy discussed the opportunities and challenges in the local and global healthcare markets and the rapidly evolving needs and paradigms of providing sustainable facilities. Ms. Reddy spoke about various strategies utilized in the healthcare markets for scalable solutions such as specialized institutes and hub and spoke based healthcare delivery. She also stressed the importance of human capital in the industry.

The day's activities were concluded by a valedictory speech by former president Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam who arrived to a thunderous standing ovation. He concluded Confluence 2009 by saying that the most important thing going ahead was cooperation between nations and that the biggest impetus for the progress for mankind would be when nations start openly sharing knowledge and expertise.
