Press Release: November 18, 2004 The team from Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Trichy have won a scholarship to participate in the Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC). The Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) is conducted by University of Washington, the Global Business Centre, the Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship, and the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs. The event is to be held between February 22 and 25, at Seattle, Washington. The winning team at Seattle will receive thousands of dollars of seed funding to start their own ventures.
The competition, scheduled for February 2005, invites students from around the world to find creative and commercially sustainable ways to address problems of poverty. This year, student teams were invited to submit business plans in one of two thematic areas: -

Information or communication technology
The team from BIM is one among the 16 teams selected for the final round, among 170 participating teams from universities all around the world. The business plan was selected by the judges based on the criteria of impact on quality of life, implementation feasibility, and financial sustainability. The social venture, called ProGreen, aims at providing sustainable livelihoods for people in the grassroots, through leveraging a sound business concept. The team comprises of Mr. Santhosh R., Mr. Saravanan S., Mr. Deepak Bhatter and Ms. Anita Parthasarathy, second year MBA students of BIM, Trichy. Social responsiveness is a virtue of every management student at Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Trichy. The team winning the scholarship is a testimony to this virtue, considering the students from BIM have continuously exhibited their keen interest in Social Responsibility. Contributed by - |
