Trends:

  1. Day 1 showed a healthy mix of companies in the fields of marketing, commercial and investment banking, operations, systems and HR.
  2. Recruitment by the National Kidney Foundation brings the foreign summer tally of the institute up to 36. NKF visited campus for the first time, bringing a unique opportunity for management students to work in an NGO based abroad.
  3. Fears of the economic recession within India affecting marketing companies were laid to rest, with the top marketing majors recruiting in much larger numbers as compared to last year. Both HLL and P&G recruited across functions, including HR. Unlike previous years in which actual summer assignments were known only a few weeks before the start of the internship, this year projects were specifically scoped out for candidates on the spot, to fit their competence levels.
  4. The other new company visiting campus this year was Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.
  5. Students still remaining in the placement system already have a number of companies queued up for this weekend, signaling a quick end to the placement process.
  6. Indian companies that have announced pre-placement offers so far: Coke, Reebok, GE Capital.
  7. The outlook appears to be very positive for final placements, given the number of foreign placements offered for summer internships, and the number and commitment of domestic companies as seen in the results of Day 1.
