IIMC's professor awarded
"Best Young Teacher Award, 2003"
by the
Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS)

Prof. U. Dinesh Kumar of the Operations Management Group has been awarded the Best Young Teacher Award by the Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) for the year 2003. The last year's Young Teacher Award was awarded to Prof. Sougata Ray thus making it two consecutive years for IIM Calcutta.

Prof. Dinesh Kumar completed his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB). Prior to Joining IIM Calcutta, Prof. Kumar was a faculty member at the University of Exeter, UK and also served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, Canada and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland.

Prof. Dinesh Kumar designed and conducted several management development programmes in India and other countries including the United Kingdom, Luxembourg and Indonesia. His MDP on system operational effectiveness designed in collaboration with Stevens Institute of Technology, USA is one of the most popular courses among DRDO scientists in India.

Prof. Kumar has written over 60 articles and case studies in the areas of Operations Research and Management in International Journals. He is also the principal author of the book titled, 'Reliability, Maintenance and Logistics Support - A Life Cycle Approach', published by the Kluwer Academic Publishers, USA.

Prof. Kumar is also the Associate Editor of the Journal OPSEARCH - The Journal of the Operational Research Society of India and serves as referee for several International Journals.

Presently, Prof. Kumar is the Chairman, Admissions and is also the head of the Internet Task Force (ITF) at IIM Calcutta. Prof. Kumar, who is known for his unique style of teaching, believes in imparting knowledge by citing anecdotes and examples that students can relate to, thus keeping his lectures informative as well as interesting.
