NIHILANTH
The Quiz Festival
Organized by IIM Indore

Scheduled to be held on 4th-5th October, 2003

The Concept

Nihilanth is the novel concept of bringing together the six IIMs and seven IITs, the prestigious Learning centres of India. And is the first event of its kind to bring the IIMs and IITs on to a common forum.

Certainly, the IITs and IIMs need no introduction. These 13 institutes form the backbone of India's development. These institutes are known to the nation as Centres of Excellence in the development of the areas - Technology, Engineering and Management - contributing to the technological growth and economic development of the country. However, they are more than just that.

They are a celebration of young fertile minds, of passion, of enthusiasm and fervour, of earnest and keen spirits. But what has been missing is the camaraderie between these institutes, a common meeting ground where they can pit themselves against each other in healthy competitive spirit. And this is what Nihilanth is all about.

Nihilanth

Nihilanth is envisaged as the Colosseum for the best brains of the country. The battle for being the first among equals. The unique aspect of Nihilanth is its rolling nature; the Festival will be organised every year by a different IIT or IIM. It belongs as much to IIMI as to IITK as it to IIMB. Nihilanth is positioned as the event fulfilling the long-standing goal of enhanced interaction between the IITs and the IIMs.

Nihilanth literally translates to the End of the Nothingness, and connotes the Prelude of Knowledge; Clearing the darkness of Ignorance with the ray of Knowledge. Nihilanth is a union of words from the two most ancient of languages, Latin and Sanskrit.

Nihil - Latin for nothing
Anth - Sanskrit for end

Nihilanth…the End of nothingness…the Genesis of knowledge

This is aptly depicted in the Festival's motif by the Chinese character Ming, symbolizing Enlightenment, forming the Trunk of the Bodhi Tree and the thirteen green leaves for the thirteen institutes.

Who else suits better to organizing the Festival's first edition than the youngest of IIMs? IIM Indore is the youngest of the six IIMs. Started in 1997 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, GOI, it fashioned for itself a niche in the global Elite of the esteemed B-Schools. And true to the legacy of IIMs it earned renown for its distinction in breeding management excellence.

The Event

The first edition of Nihilanth is being hosted by the Indian Institute of Management, Indore, on the 4th and 5th of October.

In its Debut edition, Nihilanth will host six quizzes:

  • The Science and Technology quiz
  • The Business quiz
  • The Sports quiz
  • The Movies, Entertainment, Literature and Art quiz
  • The Lone Wolf
  • The General quiz

Eminent quizmaster, Mr. Siddharth Basu, will host the General Quiz, the flag-ship event of Nihilanth. Mr. Gautham Ghosh and Mr. Arul Mani will also conduct the quizzes. With the expected participation the event will be a test for sharpened senses, incisive thinking and swift rejoinders.
