Press Release - 3rd January 2003
from IIM Indore

The recent Economic Times Survey of the Best B-Schools in India ranked Indian Institute of Management Indore as being 5th in students' perception. Inspite of being the youngest IIM, established only in 1997, IIM Indore has managed to achieve this distinction. Here's why…

The last couple of months have been exciting times for the final year students of IIM Indore (IIMI). October-December is traditionally the time when each of the country's top business schools organize their annual management festivals. These festivals are simulations of real life business scenarios across various functional areas like Marketing, Finance, IT, HR, Operations, etc. Typically these festivals are sponsored by the corporate world and several of the events consist of cases outlining actual problems facing corporate. Students act as consultants and make presentations to representatives from the concerned corporate as well as professors from the conducting institute and an industry representative. These 'business games' are witness to intense competition among participants with substantial pride and of course prize money at stake. IIMI students have performed outstandingly in this year's competitions.

The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) organized it's annual festival 'Vista' in late October. A team consisting of Dibakar Bhattacharya, Priyadarshini S, Pawan Sherpuri and Dipesh Sontake, all final year students of IIMI, won the second prize in 'Hard Sell' the Marketing Game. The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC) organized it's festival 'Intaglio' in early November. Neha Malik, Suvir Loomba and Vineet Madan won the second prize in 'Sicilian Defense', the Marketing Case Analysis competition. Mid-November saw IIMI organizing it's own festival 'IRIS 2002' and expectedly IIM Indore ruled the roost and finished well ahead of the visiting Business Schools.

'Confluence 2002,' the annual management festival of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad is one of the most prestigious competitions in the country with participation from all the six IIM's, top Indian B-Schools and also has an international flavour with teams from Wharton, London Business School, Richard Ivey, Stern, National University of Singapore. IIM Indore came next only to the hosts in this competition winning a slew of prizes - Rajib Sen, Dibakar Bhattacharya and Kaustav Dutta claimed the first prize in the Advertising Contest. Sreejit S., Kunal Purohit and Asvin R. won first prize in the IT Game while Sujay Dutta, Sumedha Khoche and Shyam Deshpande won the second prize in the Derivatives Game. IIMI students also bagged third prize in the Marketing Case Contest, Strategy Case contest and Derivatives Game. Simultaneously a team from IIM Indore won third prize in 'Best Presentation Contest' and IIM Indore's placement brochure was awarded second prize at the 'Business School Affaire' organized by the Centre for Change Management Mumbai.

In late November, Akila Moorthy and Rajeshwari Raman stood first in the paper presentation contest, part of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode's annual festival- 'Backwaters'. To cap it all a team comprising of Sujay Dutta, Punit Banga and Urvil Modi stood first in 'Atharva Business Plan Contest' organized by T.A.Pai Management Institute winning a grand prize worth Rs 50,000.

IIM Indore, the latest of the six IIM's has certainly carved a niche for itself among the top business schools in the country. Notwithstanding the small batch strength the fourth batch has come out trumps in the national stage. With final placements looming ahead the batch of 2003 is all set to ease into the corporate world. The junior batch would be keenly looking forward to their opportunity to surpass the performance of their seniors and strengthen the reputation of the institute.
