"Building Brands in Indian Markets"
National Seminar at IIM Kozhikode
December 13-14, 2003

In the changing market scenario, the change is catastrophic for many successful players of yester years. The sudden change in the paradigm of business due to adoption of free market economy has made the competitive landscape much different than what most of them had in the protectionist era. One of the key changes that we observe in this new horizon is the emergence of large multinational brands with additional brand value to be delivered to the customers and these are well backed up my financial muscle power and technology unheard of few years before. These multinational brands are ruling all the shelf-space available to the Indian marketers.

It is in this background Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, with the support of AICTE, had organized a two-day National Seminar on Building Brands in Indian Markets at IIMK Campus during December 13-14, 2003.

The seminar covered the over-all strategy followed by Indian brand managers in building brands for Indian markets. Mr. K. S. Ramesh, CEO, Cavin Kare was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The speakers included Mr. B. K. Menon, CEO, Kochin Refineries Ltd.; Mr. Harish Bijjor, CEO, HBC Inc.; Mr. R. Sridhar, CEO, Brand Com; Mr. Samit Sinha, CEO, Brand Alchemist; Mr. Ramesh J. Thomas, Country Head, Equitor; Mr. Pran Chowdhury, Ex-Chairman, Trikaya Grey; Mr. Sandeep Budhiraja, Associate Director, AC Neilson; Ms. Neha P. Shah, CEO, Mercantile and Mr. L. Raman, Head, Mudra, Bangalore.

Around 25 papers were presented by the eminent academicians and there were students of around 50 Business Schools during the seminar.

The seminar was coordinated by Prof. Tapan K. Panda.
