CONTINUUM-2003

Synchronization of IT Strategy with Business Goals

As part of the annual series, Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management is organizing a two day seminar on February 8th and 9th focusing on how organizations should align their IT strategy with its larger objectives. Today’s managers are continually being confronted with new and ever changing competitive pressures from deregulation, globalization and dynamic changes in the business environment. Hence every industry is undergoing transformation and is striving to develop new approaches to tackle competition and enhance value creation. Information Technology promises to provide the corporates with much needed competitive advantage through increased efficiency in their business processes. However, in order to be fully effective, the IT capability needs to be in synch with the relevant business practices and their work flow.

Organizations in India are using IT, but most of them are using it as a support function. IT expenditure is considered just another fad done to keep up with the competition rather than being derived from the organization’s requirement. Chief Information Officers or the GM - IT are considered to be people with a narrow focus on technology rather than the entire business perspectives.

Usually CEO’s do long term planning and visualize the organization few years down the line. Those long term visions need to be reverse engineered to formulate the present and immediate goals. How can IT strategy contribute to this whole process?

Through this seminar we hope to find out how the top management reflects on

  • How to identify new and existing technologies that will enable the business strategy?
  • How to manage the company’s technology solutions in a way that maximizes the return on investment?
  • How can IT be used to tap into newer markets and/or enrich existing ones?
  • How can IT be used to increase operational efficiency?
  • Role of IT in developing the intellectual capital, which leads to the growth of the Company.
  • Does the underlying IT Infrastructure in the organization reflect its strategic vision?
  • What does a viable portfolio of IT capabilities look like?
This Seminar aims to reflect and gain insight on the topic and the above raised issues.
