Press Release
Kiran Karnik Addresses ISB Students

Hyderabad, September 24, 2004: The Business Technology Club at the Indian School of Business organized the "IT CxO Conclave" on the theme of "Role of IT in shaping the future of Indian Economy".

The Conclave was chaired by Mr. Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM, Mr. HNLN Simha, COO, Mahindra British Telecom, Mr. Praveen Tatavarti, COO, Computer Associates, Mr. Mohan Reddy, Chairman and CEO of Infotech Enterprises Ltd. and Prof. Kesav V. Nori, Executive Vice President (and former CIO) of Tata Consultancy Services. Moderating the session was Prof. Rajiv Banker, Dean, Anderson School of Management, University of California, Riverside. The session was also attended by Ronald Loveridge, the Mayor of Riverside, California and his delegation.

"India's strength lies not only in its competitive pricing but also in its diversity", said Mr Kiran Karnik. He emphasized that it was time that the IT industry focused on the societal issues. "The future of the industry lies in servicing 5 billion people in the developing and under-developed countries rather than only focusing on the 100 million people in the developed nations," he added.

The ISB Business Technology Club had earlier organized the "SOGETI CIO Delegation - Meeting of Minds", a fortnight ago where CEOs and CIOs of SOGETI Europe had an interactive session with the Club members. Tarun Kohli, President of the ISB Business Technology Club, who comes with 6 yrs of Asia Pacific experience in the IT Industry said, "The IT industry is becoming very dynamic; the days are over when India was looked upon as low cost arbitrage model for the industry. These events give a good perspective to the current challenges facing the IT Industry and are very important in ISB's initiatives to groom future business leaders."

The ISB Business Technology Club acts as a forum for close industry interaction to gain a 'live' understanding of the business perspectives of technology.
