organizes a workshop on
"Data Warehousing Applications in Business"
from May 6 - 8, 2003

S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research organized a workshop on "Data Warehousing Applications in Business", from May 6 - 8, 2003. Decisions based on data provide a competitive edge to today's business. In variety of organizations, operational systems create a large amount of data. The challenge is to store it in appropriate structure that is amenable for quick response to queries using various analytical tools, e.g., OLAP, Data Mining or direct SQL. One needs to design, build and maintain data warehouse for the same.

The workshop consisted of classroom sessions, group discussions, case study discussions as well as hands-on, using Data Warehousing tool from Microsoft. Faculty consisted of eminent personalities from academic world of S. P. Jain Institute as well as practitioners from various leading organizations, like TCS, SAS, RBI, ICICI Bank, NCR, and iFlex.

There were participants from IT services companies (like CMC, HCL, Kale Consultants, Kanbay, Patni Computers, Shawman Software, Zensar), as well as in-house IT divisions of other companies (like Amex, BSE, IDBI, IMRB, LIC, SCHIL). Participants not only went back with the clear conceptual understanding, but also step-by-step working on Data Warehousing projects, practical issues faced in such type of projects, and knowledge about various tools with its merits. Workshop ended in 3 days, but association amongst the participants and S.P. Jain continues via various e-means.

In words of one of the senior executive from Kale Consultants, "The best part was to bring practitioners to expose real life problems". In same breadth, he added, "Duration of the program should be more". (Yeh Dil Maange More!!)

In addition to conducting similar workshops in area of BI (Business Intelligence), S. P. Jain along with other interested industries and institutes, plans to establish BI forum, India.
