The students undertake a 6-week project in a rural or an underprivileged section of the society. The DOCC concept, which is now in its 10th year since inception, has gained acceptance from the corporate world as a vehicle to sensitize the students in making them better managers of tomorrow. The corporate will also be using the DOCC projects as a part of evaluation for final placements.

The panelists were very appreciative of the work done by the students and many of the projects were accepted as a part of the CSR drive in many of the companies.

"We collected Rs. 12,000/- by conducting a sale of handicrafts by the disadvantaged children of Shristi, an NGO in Bangalore. This is not a big amount in the corporate world but this would take care of the salaries of teachers for the next few months at the NGO. The satisfaction, which we got in seeing the smiles at the NGO, will become part of our lives forever," says Krishnamurthy Iyer. As a part of their project alongwith Avinash Rao, Gautam Agarwal, and Piyush arora, they evolved a donor management system to keep track of the donors to help the NGO in collecting funds in the future. The foursome also helped in marketing the handicrafts made by the children.

Says Dr. M. L. Shrikant, Hon. Dean of SPJIMR, "The concept which was started 10 years ago faced heavy resistance from the students and Corporates. Now the companies realize the importance of exposing the management students to deprivation in the country, which not only sensitizes them to real India but also proves the universality of management principles which they learn to apply in an unstructured environment."
